Both Perez and Cox were named to the USL W-League All Conference Team and All League Team for their consistent play this season. It’s unfortunate that Kelli Smith, Kate Deines and perhaps Lyndsey Patterson were left off the All Conference Team. All three were as consistent and integral parts of the Sounders Women success this season.
Cox and Perez were certainly the force behind the Sounders success this season. Their experience on the national level helped keep the offense and defense calm in big games. When the full team was available, Perez was able to provide the buildup for Morgan and Sydney Leroux. She also worked well with Megan Rapinoe. While her teammates from the National team were here, Stephanie helped instruct her back line along with Solo. Once the Olympic team was named, they left for their National duties and Cox remained with the Sounders. Their roster restrictions were our gain. Cox was able to help groom Kate Deines to play center defender, and together they made a formidable wall. They only allowed eight goals in 14 regular season games.
The Sounders Women ownership also confirmed that the Sounders Women would return next season. It is doubtful that the current ownership would move the team up to the pro level next season if there is that option. They confirmed that they have had talks with Hope Solo, Alex Morgan and Veronica Perez about returning next season, and they seem hopeful that something can be worked out. I also believe that Stephanie Cox will be available next season, as she took an assistant coaching position locally, and calls Gig Harbor home.
Congrats ladies, it’s well deserved. See you next season?
